Epakitin Nutritional Supplement, 2.16 oz (60 gm) is an over-the-counter supplement that is intended to help support kidney function in dogs and cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This palatable powder contains Chitosan, a naturally occurring polysaccharide derived from shrimp and crab shells. While there is no cure for CKD, the Chitosan in Epakitin works as a phosphate-binder to reduce elevated phosphate levels. This may slow down the destructive progression of CKD and improve your pet's quality of life.

Epakitin, 60 gm is simply added to your pet's food. It can be used with special low phosphorus CKD diets or your pet's regular food. The manufacturer also states that Epakitin can be used with other kidney disease therapies, including Azodyl. Consult wtih your veterinarian before beginning a new supplement regimen with your car or dog.

Dogs/Cats:	All weights	1 gm of Epakitin per 5 kg (11 lb) body weight given orally in the morning and the evening mixed with food. One level spoonful (provided) contains 1 gram of Epakitin.

The purchase was safe and easy.
However, my cat will not eat this stuff when mixed with food. I'm going to have to find another way to get these nutrients in her.
It can be a little pricey for a small amount, but for those of us looking to give our cats the best, it's worth it sometimes.
